Lidl GB is set to introduce the new Lidl Plus self-scanning feature, giving shoppers a faster and more flexible way to shop in stores. The feature is built directly into the Lidl Plus app and will begin a trial in September 2025 at four stores. A full rollout is planned next year.

Digital Upgrade Designed to Simplify Shopping

The self-scanning feature will allow the consumer to use their phones to scan goods as they go about shopping, calculate the amount of money spent and then pay via a self-checking point. All that is done on the already available Lidl Plus app and no additional device is required.

The element is included in Lidl GB strategy to engage in the technology to enhance shopping experience. It is preceded by other forms of upgrades, including new self-checkout lanes and Click, Reserve & Collect service already introduced earlier in the Lidl Plus.

Shopping will be more under the control of the customer. They get options of using staffed checkouts, self-service, and self-scanning. Lidl claims that the idea is to offer a greater variety and make it easy and fast.

The trial in September will assist Lidl GB to know how the system will operate in the actual stores. The trial results will inform the national roll out in 2026. The concept is to simplify the process of the shopping trip, quicker, more manageable, primarily in those who frequently use Lidl Plus.

Customers also get to monitor discounts and savings as they shop using the self-scanning feature. This has the ability to save time during payment and it will also ease the lineup during peak hours in supermarkets.

Lidl GB is spending on digital tools that are capable of expansion in all its premises. The company is interested in enhancing the operations of the stores and customer service. The reason of this move is pertaining to the effort of Lidl to modernise its stores and continue at offering low prices.

In England, Scotland and Wales, Lidl GB has over 980 stores and 14 distribution centres. It has more than 35000 employees in the nation. The retailer belongs to the Schwarz Group which is one of Europe largest food retail groups. In 2023, the total Schwarz Group sales were 167.2 billion in euro.

Lidl GB is still backing British food production and agriculture. It has British suppliers of about two thirds of its products. The company further gives a lot of emphasis on the people, the planet and long term sustainability.

The new Lidl Plus self-scanning feature is another step in Lidl GB’s plan to improve how people shop. It is one of the efforts of the supermarket to provide straightforward and intelligent tools that will facilitate a quicker, less cumbersome and more convenient shopping experience to all corners.
