It’s time for the Valencia orange season and Sunkist is bringing out new merchandising tips to help retailers sell larger value packs and create impactful displays for this summer. They also have an exciting back-to-school giveaway launching where families can win a prize pack full of Sunkist goodies as they get ready for the new school year.

Driving Citrus Sales Through Effective Merchandising

Citrus remains a key part of shoppers’ baskets over the summer, with in-store produce purchases mainly being oranges, according to Circana data. Constructing impactful displays that place the Sunkist brand at the heart of their customers’ shopping journey is one effective way for retailers to drive the category during the Valencia season.

The Rise of Valencia Oranges

“Valencia oranges had a strong start to their season this year, up nearly 35 percent in June compared to last year at this time, according to Circana,” said Cassie Howard, Sr. Director of Category Management and Marketing at Sunkist Growers, Inc. He added, “Valencias are a summer favorite and great for juicing – this program will elevate their presence and demand in the marketplace.”

Impulse Buys & Interactive Displays

Over 15 percent of orange shoppers buy oranges on impulse, revealed a study commissioned by Sunkist – emphasizing how important it is to add interactive displays into stores on top of sales floor stacks. New ready-to-wrap merchandising offers from Sunkist include bilingual Latin-inspired pallet bin wraps as well as a back-to-school-themed pallet bin wrap since consumers start thinking about back-to-school shopping earlier and earlier each year (as early as July).

“How can we make going back to school fun? That’s what we’re asking ourselves at Sunkist this year,” added Cassie. “This giveaway is our way of saying thank you to all those who support us and helping parents prepare their children for the best school year possible by giving them healthy lunches.”

The Sunkist Back-to-School Sweepstakes runs from July 8 – September 14, 2024 where citrus lovers can enter for a chance to win cool back-to-school prizes; a great way for retailers to connect with their shoppers this summer. Also, on the new bin wrap designs are QR-codes that link directly to the sweepstakes so consumers can learn more about it.
